Stakeholders
The success and sustainability of the Rotary Safari for WASH project depend heavily on the active involvement and collaboration of various stakeholders. These stakeholders play crucial roles in ensuring that the project delivers lasting impact in the beneficiary schools and their communities. Below is a breakdown of the key stakeholders and their roles:
1. Learners (Pupils)
Role & Benefits:
Learners are the primary beneficiaries of the project. Improved access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities will directly enhance their health, reduce absenteeism, and create a better learning environment. This, in turn, supports improved academic performance and school completion rates.Engagement:
Learners will be encouraged to participate in hygiene education programs and become active members of school WASH clubs, promoting good practices among their peers.
2. Teachers and Support Staff
Role & Benefits:
Teachers and school staff will benefit from improved working conditions with better sanitation and hygiene facilities. They will also be key facilitators in promoting hygiene education and maintaining the WASH infrastructure.Engagement:
They will receive training on hygiene promotion, WASH facility maintenance, and will help supervise student-led initiatives such as WASH clubs.
3. School Management Committees (SMCs)
Role & Benefits:
SMCs oversee the general management of the schools, including WASH infrastructure. They will play a pivotal role in ensuring the proper maintenance and sustainability of the facilities installed or renovated under the project.Engagement:
SMC members will be trained on management and oversight of WASH projects, helping coordinate community involvement and resource mobilization.
4. Parents and Guardians
Role & Benefits:
Parents and guardians stand to benefit indirectly as improved WASH conditions reduce waterborne illnesses among children, leading to fewer healthcare costs and better wellbeing at home. Good hygiene practices taught at school can be transferred to homes, promoting healthier communities.Engagement:
Through community meetings and awareness campaigns, parents will be engaged to support the upkeep of WASH facilities and reinforce hygienic practices in their households.
5. Local Community Members and Leaders
Role & Benefits:
The local community benefits from enhanced public health due to improved sanitation and water access in schools. Local leaders provide vital support in mobilizing resources and ensuring community ownership of the project.Engagement:
Community members will be involved in awareness campaigns and encouraged to participate in maintaining WASH facilities. Local leaders will advocate for the project and help align it with community development plans.
6. Government Agencies
Role & Benefits:
Government bodies including the Local Government Education and Health Departments are key partners who provide technical guidance, policy oversight, and ensure that the WASH infrastructure complies with national standards.Engagement:
The project will collaborate with these agencies for monitoring, resource allocation, and scaling up successful interventions in line with national education and health priorities.
Summary
By fostering strong partnerships among these stakeholders, the Rotary Safari for WASH project ensures that WASH improvements are not only effectively implemented but also sustainable in the long term. Community involvement and government collaboration are particularly vital to maintaining the facilities and reinforcing the health and educational benefits for generations to come.
